November--be thankful for libraries!

November is just around the corner. Make sure that your children attend our "After School at the Library" program on November 13 at 3:30 p.m. Puppeteer Lisa Laird will be presenting an awesome, fun-filled program about Farmyard Fables! The program is for kindergarteners through fifth grade! Lisa is great!

There will be also be a "Monday Matinee" for first through fifth graders on November 10. Call for the name of the movie and more details.

If you haven't looked at our Sioux County Newspaper Project, please check it out. Because of some wonderful grants, the Sioux County Library Association has been able to digitize all the papers of the county through the year 2000. The website lets you search by individual paper, year, and key words. Just follow this link!
And, a reminder, the library closes at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve and is closed on Thanksgiving Day. Regular hours resume on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

It's almost time for school--

School bells will be ringing next week for West Sioux students. Remember that the library has several online databases that are accessible through our website. You can search the World Book Online, EbscoHost--a wonderful database--with many full text articles from hundreds of periodicals, and of courses, you can also choose World Cat.

For more information about any of these services, please stop by the library. For some of them you will need a unique password available only in-person.

Don't forget to use WILBOR. Our downloadable books site is proving to be a hit. As long as you are a Hawarden or Sioux County rural resident, this service is there for you! Make sure to call us if you are unable to download the software and we will gladly walk you through it over the phone or in person with your laptop. Go to the library's website for any of these services.

Take time to read

Do you need to relax? Check out a book--if you like inspirational fiction, try SUMMER SNOW by Nicole Baart. This is the sequel to AFTER THE LEAVES FALL. It is a story of forgiveness and new beginnings. It is also about knowing who you are. The author is from Sioux Center, Iowa.

Are you a walker? Try our books on cd. And, announcing, that soon we will have downloadable books for your MP3 Players. Awesome new service!!!! Check our website or this blog for the date that this will go live.

Grab a cup of coffee in the morning and read the paper, read your book, or just read the ads. It is a great way to begin the morning. In fact, I think a flavored coffee is just the thing with a good book.

Summer reading begins the first week of June. This year we want adults and kids to track the minutes that they read. Who will read the most--adults or kids? I think I have a pretty good idea on this one!

Oh, we had our book sale today. Thanks to everyone who bought books to help us with our budget. We still have some left and they will be on sale at further reduced prices through the end of May. Bargains galore!
