Early Literacy Centers

Come see the early literacy centers at the library. There are two that are available to children between the ages of 3-8. There is a bilingual version that can help your child. Over 80 programs are available at the library on these centers. These centers are available because of grants from the Hawarden Community Foundation and the Sioux County Foundation. Special thanks to Peoples Bank of Hawarden who generously gave to this project.

IT'S NEW AND IT'S GREAT

The Hawarden Public Library has just added five new databases to its collection. These are accessible through our web site under the "do research" tab. Now, from your home computer, or at the library you can search the following:

--Auto Repair Reference Center

--Home Improvement Reference Center

--Hobbies and Crafts

--Small Engine Repair

--NoveList Plus

These are part of our EbscoHost Database. You will need to stop by the library for a password and login --but then you are on your way!

Outdoor Lab/Classroom

The Library Board is working very diligently on the plans for the Outdoor Lab/Classroom. We are grateful for all of you who have donated to the project. You should begin seeing some "action" in the area in the next few months. Plans call for a "prairie' area featuring native Iowa
plants as well as a sitting area. Check out the plans at the library.

February is almost over- - - -

It has been a great month at the library. Lots of people have been coming through our doors. The library board has also decided to proceed on a new project--An Outdoor Library Lab --on the area north of our parking lot. The plans have been in the paper, and they are also on display at the libary. The idea is to develop an area into an outside story area with wi-fi access and native Iowa trees and flora. Now, the fundraising has begun!

Did you know that Eric Carle's book THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR is 40 years old! The library will be celebrating the event with kindergarten and first graders on Thursday, Feb. 26.

It should be a good time!

Have you been to the library lately?

If you have not been to the library, walk on over! We are thrilled with how the downloadable book program has soared to great heights. You can download to your Ipod or Mp3 players via the library's web site.

In February we will be introducing even more pictures to the Helen Vipond Digitization Project.

There are over a 1000 photos showing the history of the Hawarden community. Please go to our web site and check it out: http://www.hawarden.lib.ia.us/

During the month of February there will be an "After School at the Library" program for first and second graders. It will be held on Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. Call to register.

It's February and it's time for Valentine's Day. Check out the display of romances!
